Growers versus showers, and which are you? I think the answer will be straightforward. But, we will look at how and why this happens, and some other statistics around our penises. No matter the outcome, always communicate with your partner. Make sure she’s on the same page as you.

For those that don’t know, growers versus showers is about flaccid versus erect penis size. Growers, like me, tend to start small with erections that are much larger than their flaccid size. Showers are nearly the same size flaccid or erect, but their erections are just hard. According to a study published in IJIR here on nature.com, they classified a grower as someone with more than 1.5 inches difference between erect and flaccid. A Shower is someone with less than 1.5 inches difference between flaccid and erect.

Grower vs. Shower Study

Growers versus showers, the scales lean toward the showers. According to the study linked above, of their participants 73% were showers. They do clearly state that with such a small sample size (ha!) that it’s impossible to determine the ratio world wide. For us growers, this means that we are in the minority. Sometimes our partners are surprised by the appearance of a small penis. Or one that appears small. Being a grower, I’ve experienced some embarrassment about my flaccid size. As it turns out, my erect size is in the 99th percentile. I also wasn’t taught about growers and showers growing up, so I didn’t know I was normal.

This article at healthline also reviews what determines growers versus showers. First, they mention tissue elasticity, which is the capacity for your penile tissue to stretch. Then, they mention collagen, which makes up over half the tissue in your penis. Lastly, your overall health and bloodflow are an important factor in erect size. The study referenced is actually a study on erectile dysfunction.

Measure Yourself

To determine if you are a grower or a shower, measure your penis. Start with it flaccid. I prefer the bone pressed method. Measure along the top of the shaft starting with the end or the ruler pressed against your hip bone behind your penis. Then, get erect however you prefer. I would suggest getting help with your partner on this, have some fun! Measure again, using the same method. If you are unable to get an erection, you can take a stretched measurement. Simply stretch your penis out and take that measurement. If the difference between the measurements is more than 1.5 inches, you are a grower.

Measuring your penis

The study was too small to determine if this had an effect on the erect penis length. The important thing is that you are happy with your size. With growers versus showers, it’s important to remember that the end product is what’s important. Also, now that you’ve measured, I’m sure you are anxious to know that average penis size is 5.5 inches, worldwide. Also, the vast majority of woman prefer an average size penis. Anything too large or long can hurt when having sex. Just keep that in mind.

It’s important to remember that being happy with yhat you have and having confidence in what you are doing are the most important parts of sex. Remember thatto you, she is a completel person and it’s not just about her pussy. So for her, it would make sense that it’s not just about what’s between your legs either.

ED isn’t devastating, there is help you there for you! Erectile Dysfunction has a myriad of causes, with a corresponding number of fixes. ED can be cause by psychological and physical problems. From blood pressure or obesity, to low testosterone, almost all the physical causes of erectile dysfunction can be fixed. Likewise, stress and depression are examples of the psychological issues that can cause erectile dysfunction.

You are making out with your partner. First, things start to heat up. Then, you start getting more serious. Touching begins, her all over you, you all over her. Suddenly, Mr. Happy isn’t so happy. What now?

First, do not panic. It is really important to remember that this happens to everyone. Even if you haven’t had it happen yet, it will. So, how you handle the problem will dictate how your partner reacts to the issue. You need to react in a calm way, and simply communicate with her what’s happening. Then, you have to remember that you are more than your dick.

Physical Causes

The physical problems that cause ED can mostly be cured. A good website to see the causes of ED is at the Mayo Clinic. Their list includes many things, including obesity and smoking. I have had experience with low testosterone. I went to my doctor and had a conversation about my issues, including ED. Of course, there was an easy fix for this in my case. Specifically, I take shots every week to balance my hormones. Low-T causes more than erectile dysfunction. In my case, it caused mood changes and general weakness. But, everything is better now and everything is working great!

Psychological Causes

Examples of psychological problems that cause ED are depression and stress, as well as relationship issues. Both of these can be worked on with professional help. One of the big things that you’ll find on this blog I’ve been trying to get across is to communicate. That includes getting help. As men, we are typically unwilling to get the help we need. In reality, we need to learn to open up and talk to those that can help us. At the very least, talk to your partner. A healthy relationship should work on all problems together, whether they start with you or her. There will be a post about maintaining a healthy relationship soon.

Should erectile dysfunction happen to you, remember that you are more than your dick. ED doesn’t have to stop the festivities. There’s a lot of other things you can do to her to make sex fun for both of you. There’s always oral sex, fingering, or using toys on her. The point is, enjoy getting her to cum. Honestly, it sucks to not have your dick work. It’s a blow to your confidence and your manhood (no pun intended). But, it’s not the end of the world. Get help. Talk to your doctor. Communicate with your partner.

As always, communicate with me on our Contact Us page! I’d love to hear feedback about the articles and information I try to get the word out on!

Anatomy of the penis. Let’s talk about it. We’ve all got one, but there’s some things we may not know. We’ll cover basic anatomy, what the parts do, and what makes us feel good. We will also talk about when things go wrong, and some basic facts that sometimes get overlooked about our Johnson’s. The goal of this post is to educate about what we have, what feels good, and why it feels good.

Anatomy Overview

Basic Male Anatomy

The picture above shows the basic anatomy of the male reproductive system. We’ll get into more detail below about the anatomy of the penis. As you can see, there are several parts inside and outside the body cavity. The scrotum protects and regulates the temperature of the testes. This fascinates women when your balls just move around on their own. This is also why they shrink when they are cold and hang lower when it’s hot. It should also be noted that there are men that are “grow-ers” and “show-ers”. Grow-ers are small flaccid, and grow sometimes multiple times their flaccid size. Show-ers are roughly the same size flaccid or erect, the only difference is hardness.

As you can see, there’s a few reproductive parts inside. We tend to think of just the penis and the scrotum/testes as our reproductive parts. But there’s more to it than that, and more ways to please us than just our penis.

The vas deferens carries the sperm from the testes (5% of the ejaculate volume) to the urethra and the seminal vesicles. As the sperm passes through the seminal vesicles in the vas deferens, the seminal vesicles add the seminal fluid (50-65% of the ejaculate volume) to the ejaculate. Then the prostate adds some more fluid (roughly 20-30% of the ejaculate volume). When you ejaculate, the prostate squeezes and closes off the bladder from the urethra, pushing the ejaculate out of the body. Because the prostate closes off the bladder, it’s not possible to pee and ejaculate at the same time. You can read more about this at Medical News Today.

Shaft Anatomy

Interior anatomy of the shaft
Interior anatomy of the shaft of the penis

Erections are the result of blood being pumped into the penis. the “top” of the shaft is made up of a structured spongy material called the Corpus Cavernosum. This spongy material fills with blood and makes your dick erect. When it fills with blood, there is a membrane that traps the blood inside the penis. Along the bottom, where the urethra is, there’s a different kind of erectile tissue that isn’t as firm so the urethra can pump out ejeculate.

Now that we’ve covered some of the basic anatomy of the penis and sex organs, we should use this time to cover some more medical information. When you get a vasectomy, the doctor cuts and ties off the vas deferens inside the scrotum. They make a small incision on each side of the scrotum, pul out the vas deferens. Then it is cut and knotted off, and in my case cauterized. If you are considering getting this done, my experience was stellar. The anticipation leading to the event was worse than the event itself. Doctor’s require you to have 24 “emissions” to clear out the pipes before you come back for the verification test. This is what I called “the fun part”.

Erectile Dysfunction

Something that no one wants to talk about is ED, Erectile Dysfunction. When our little soldiers can’t perform, it’s time to talk to a doctor. There are some things we can pay attention to before we talk to the doctor about the issue. For example, notice if you have trouble with morning wood or not. Notice if you have difficulty getting hard at different times of the day. Pay attention to non-sexual things, like stress, eating habits, emotional state, and exercise habits. Any changes in these things can be clues as to what is causing our problems. There will be a longer post about ED at a later date. Keep and eye out for that!

Now we need to talk about pleasure. Just like the post about women’s anatomy, discussing what feels good and what doesn’t in the context of the anatomy of the penis is one of the main goals of this blog.

Labeled penis
Basic Anatomy

We’ll start at the tip and work our way down because 90% of the nerves in our penis are in the first 1-2 inches. The head, or glans, should get a lot of attention from your significant other. Experience has taught me that the frenulum is the magic spot. There’s a concentration of nerves there, on the bottom of the shaft right were the glans connects to the shaft. The shaft and the balls feel good too, but the glans and the area right below the head are the highest concentration of nerves. If it’s a hand job or a blow job, asking her to concentrate on these areas will feel great. But that doesn’t mean your SO should ignore the balls and the shaft. It all feels good, so don’t be afraid to communicate with her (discussed here)!

Prostate and Butt Stuff

Butt stuff. Some people don’t enjoy this, and that is OK. However, there are a lot of pleasure nerves inside your ass. Including the prostate. If you doubt me, look up “prostate milking” on your favorite porn website. If you expect your lady to let you play with her ass, you should think about letting her play with yours. You can experience a lot of pleasure from “butt stuff”. Don’t be afraid of it because of social stigma. Who cares what you do in your bedroom, let your freak flag fly high!
